First Notebook of Winter 2008

For this notebook i want to mention that we have moved to subversion for versioning all files but the meeting list.  I also set up a nice GUI for accessing this called Trac and can be found at http://compsciguy.homeftp.org/trac/mimir to view the source code click the “Browse Source” link.  To view the changes that have been added click the “Timeline” link.  This will show who changed the file as well as a short comment on what is contained in the change. All of our documentation is contained on that SubVersion Repository and can be found in the Documentation folder.  The exception to this rule is the Meeting list and the comments which can be found attached to the end of this post. As for project status implementation is in full swing and we are on track for the Feb 11th Milestone deadline.  To ensure this we have set up nightly backups to multiple drives and locations.

The State of the Code

So the programming has begun in full swing.  There is already a good start to the network clients for the Meta Data Controller, MimirClient(the “user” client) and the Storage Client.  Also a SubVersion repository has been set up and can be viewed on our Trac page at http://compsciguy.homeftp.org/trac/mimir.  Also i want to take this time to thank Chris Deeterly for his suggestion to implement a task handler that works like a queue to process tasks. The deadline is coming up soon (feb 11th) and we are working at a fever pitch to get this first HUGE milestone done in time.

decoding simulator is working

Tomorrow I am going to add some statistic gathering features and start looking at the Robust Soliton Distribution again.  If you want to can start experimenting with some distributions or try to implement the Robust Soliton Distribution.  You only need to modify the code in the getDistribution() function which returns an integer with the probability of the distribution.  I have a few demos there that I played around with for about 15 min.  Good news, we have already achieved roughly 60% losses in simulation, so hopefully our project goal will not be hard to achieve.   — Chris Siebert
