Knowledge Distributed

Welcome

Welcome again, I am Ryan McGovern and i will likely be doing most of the work on this website. The goal of this site is for the Development team to shed some light on our Senior Project and keep our professors and advisor’s up to speed as well as attract any attention we can for suggestions and or more people to work on our little experiment. Though incase we are successful we will likely keep alot of this to ourselves. In case you did not read the About page, our project named MimirFS is a distributed file system. The project is based off of parity data instead of sheer replication and using technologies often used for long range communication. Though we are not using this just for communication but also as a way to maintain fault tolerance when systems go off line or lose data. A key Assumption is that computers are cheap data is not, we want to design a system that can handle multiple concurrent failures and be able to handle systems going off and coming back online intelligently. We are also planning for this system to be able to grow and cover WAN’s inside large cooperations or to be able to span Lan’s that are connected by a single or multiple links and optimize for these sorts of topologies.Their will also likely be many Off topic posts on Project Management skills, annoyances with operating systems, programming languages and computers in general. So please stay tuned the show is about to begin.
